Rebecca, Safe Passage

It was not always easy for me to admit that I am uncomfortable speaking to people-in person or in front of a crowd. Not because I’m shy, timid or unsure of myself, however. Because of a dental disfigurement suffered in an abusive relationship, I was self-conscious of my appearance. I was overwhelmed with fear and worried that people would judge me because of the way I looked. That was until I met Barbara Niven. With the guidance and patience a mother shows when teaching a child, Barbara coached me into overcoming my fears. Through laughter, tears, jokes and cheers she taught me to use fear as a tool when communicating. Now I am confident when speaking to people, whether one to one or in front of a crowd. I have learned to focus past my fear and concentrate on the message I want people to hear.
