Crossword Mysteries, the made-for-TV movies, are actually the brainchild of New York Times crossword puzzle creator, Will Shortz. The series’ centers around newspaper crossword editor Tess Harper (Lacey) who discovers that her weekly clues have ties to local crimes. Enter NYPD detective Logan O’Connor (Brennan), who eventually works with Tess to solve a puzzling (we had to) murder case. 

TV Movie series

• A Puzzles To Die For (2019): A crossword is found on the murdered owner of a burglarized art gallery. Tess Harper (Lacey Chabert), a Sentinel crossword editor, finds clues in crosswords. Eventually, detective Logan (Brennan Elliot) accepts her clues and help. Tess is also running a crossword tournament.

• Proposing Murder (2019): When an old friend of New York Sentinel Crosswords editor Tess Harper (Lacey Chabert) is found murdered on the very day the Sentinel’s crossword puzzle includes his proposal of marriage, Tess unofficially teams up with Lt. Logan O’Connor (Brennan Elliot) to find the killer. Together, they must assemble the pieces of a puzzle whose origins go all the way back to WWII Europe.

• Abracadaver (2020): A well-known magician drops dead in the middle of a dangerous trick on stage in front of a packed audience, but when the sudden death turns out to be murder, New York Sentinel Crosswords editor (and part-timer sleuth) Tess Harper (Chabert) and NYPD detective Logan O’Connor (Elliott) team up to discover exactly whose sleight of hand is behind the deadly ‘now you see him, now you don’t’ stunt. Together, they must uncover the not-so-obvious clues and work their investigative magic to bring a killer to justice,
