This pandemic is forcing me to learn a lot of new things. It’s very empowering to take control over the things we can during this crazy time. For instance, look at those roots! Then see what I finally did yesterday.
I know there are way more important things right now, but dang it, finding ways to feel some degree of normalcy is important. I hated my “pandemic hair”, but our salons are still closed here in LA. People kept saying “don’t use the box color” because it will damage blonde hair, so I’ve been waiting. And my roots have been growing.
Then it dawned on me that I already had the formula that my guy uses on me. He gave it to me for film stylists to use if I’m on location and need a touch up. So on a whim I looked the name up on Amazon and surprise, it was there. Only $7.95 too!!!?? I ordered it plus everything else – Volumizer (per the videos), cape, mixing cup, brushes, etc – and watched three YouTube how-to videos. Then I put it all in the bathroom and stared at it for a week to get up my courage. Yesterday was the day. Took me two hours because I was so fumbly… but I don’t know why I waited so long. It was really easy and pretty foolproof. Of course I don’t have highlights but I’ll take it with no more roots!
Jeff cut it a couple of weeks ago too so it’s pretty healthy now (hadn’t had a haircut since January either). Cutting it was a tad scary though, and may or may not be good for a relationship. That was true trust, believe me. I asked him to trim it just half an inch but when I saw what fell, he had cut way more than that. But I didn’t want to hurt his feelings so I just kept my mouth shut. He did it so carefully too, and was so sweet and proud of himself. And… I love it! I’m going to keep it this way I think. He still swears he only cut a half an inch but I measured it. Proof! Exactly 3 inches! But he nailed it. Thanks honey!
So my lessons from the pandemic continue. The recurring theme is to learn to rely on myself more. To quit seeking perfection, it doesn’t matter in the long run. To ask for help and be more vulnerable to the ones I love. And to expose my real self more. Because in the end, what difference does it really make anyway? These are life and death times we are living in. And when we look back on it all, the big things we will remember are all the little moments that we shared with someone else. (Which is why I love sharing back and forth with you.)
What have you been learning or doing differently in your life during the pandemic? Please share with pics if you can. We are all in this together! I send you and yours much love from me and mine. Stay safe, and please wear a mask so we can all stay healthy!
