Happy #PrideMonth! I celebrate all my LGBTQ+ friends and those who just need someone to support them in their quest to be who they are. It takes so much courage to “come out” and declare yourself, to stand up and say with pride “This is me.” I can’t even imagine what strength it costs to take that risk, knowing you have everything to gain but also everything to lose. Too many lose their families, their friends, their jobs, their very lives.
In this day and age we should not still be reading stories of people who are being bullied and judged for choosing who they love or who they decide to be in their own bodies. How can it be that homeless youth statistics are still growing because their families banish them for being gay or transgender and they have nowhere to go? Where is the love in that? I am a Christian and I always ask myself “what would Jesus do?” Jesus ALWAYS chose love, not hate, in every story I ever read in the bible. He is my teacher.
Right this very minute someone may be contemplating suicide – someone you may even know – because they feel despair over being “different”. How can we let them feel so alone? We must be their hope, their lifeline, their anchor, their mirror that reflects their beauty back to them.
I honestly can’t believe that after the huge strides we all made in Marriage Equality a few years ago, it feels like we are going backwards now in basic civil liberties and rights for those who simply make different choices. Remember… Love is Love is Love. And the world needs more of it, now more than ever.
Please vow to stand up with me and raise your voice in support of those who need it. Stand up against those who bully them, or call them “other”. We are ALL different and “other” in some way. I believe God does not make mistakes. He is an incredible Artist and made each of us beautifully different, in all our perfect imperfections, for a reason.
I especially love this photo and the offer of FREE MOM HUGS. What a fabulous idea! Bravo to these incredible people who started this movement. Now I want to join in and help take this idea viral. Please go to www.FreeMomHugs.org and check it out, share this post with your family and friends, and then please join me.
Here is my pledge:
I vow to give a free Mom Hug to whoever wants one, whenever and wherever you see me, for whatever reason, or for no reason. During Pride Week and beyond. If you are LGBTQ+, I will be here for you when ou yneed a “stand in” or support person to listen and help you get through a tough time, or if you just need to smile and connect with another human being, or if you start to forget how beautiful you are exactly the way you are.
And fair warning, I will probably ask for one right back. Each of us feels “less than” at times. Each of us has doubts. We all yearn to feel affirmed and wanted, to know we matter. I have learned that giving love to someone else replenishes my own heart and soul tenfold.
We are all in this journey of Life together folks. For better or worse, for richer for poorer, til death do us part. Let us always, always, choose Love.
PS – Look out… I am going to hug you when I see you. ❤
