I wish I could save them all.

This is absolutely heart-breaking. Please, before you adopt an animal make sure you are willing to make a lifelong commitment to its care and NEVER consider giving it up as an option. Not if your job changes, if your life changes, or if you have to move. Not if you get divorced. Not if you just get tired of picking up dog poop.

These animals are counting on you for their very lives, and it must be a commitment for their entire lifetime, in sickness, health and whatever comes in between. If you can’t make that commitment at the very beginning, do not become an animal owner. Because there will be a lot of poop, peeing on carpets, medical bills, and other surprises along the journey.

These sentient beings are not toys, they are not to be brought in as cute puppies or kittens on a whim, and they are not pieces of garbage to be discarded when they get old and sick or simply are not “cute” anymore.

Take all of that into consideration and make that pledge before you bring one home.

And if you do decide to add a fur baby to your household, please go down to a shelter and give an animal there a second chance. Shelter pets who are adopted know how close they were to never getting out again, and they will be the most loyal, loving companions you will ever have in your life.

Please pray for all those discarded pets who are being dumped in shelters today and who are scared, confused and terribly betrayed. Many of them will be killed soon because their numbers are just too great to adopt back out. it is not their fault. It is humans who have failed them.

If you have a pet, please get it spayed and neutered to help alleviate the overpopulation. Please also support and donate to organizations and people who do their best to protect them. Every day they steel their hearts to enter crowded shelters to give the animals love and comfort while they are waiting for their miracle. And every day their hearts break that they can’t do enough fast enough to save them.

Dear God, if I could have one wish, I wish I could save them all.
