Cena, a military Hero Dog and War Veteran, was honored for his service this week as he prepared to go over the Rainbow Bridge after losing a battle with bone cancer. He and his handler, Marine Corps Veteran Jeff DeYoung, received a hero’s sendoff from a grateful nation. Rest In Peace Cena!

Jeff and Cena were reunited years after their war service ended through the efforts of American Humane. Here is their story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oporPDrhYqY&sns=em
All of our Veterans, both two-legged and four-legged, deserve our respect and every ounce of our help when they return from war! That’s why I am proud to be aligned as a National Ambassador for American Humane & Hallmark Channel USA. They have joined forces on several military service initiatives which honor heroes on both ends of the leash.
The first class of shelter dogs in the #ShelterToService program has just graduated and were successfully paired with Veterans suffering from PTSD. Many more are being trained right now, and they are already changing the lives of Veterans… as well as saving the lives of dogs who are in over-crowded shelters.
American Humane and Hallmark Channel are also working hard to reunite military service dogs with their soldier handlers after they return home. Up until now, military dogs were classified as “equipment” and were not allowed to come back to the USA. There is much red tape and cost involved to get this done, but miracles like Jeff and Cena’s reunification are happening thanks to dedicated people.
Also, please don’t forget to watch American Humane Hero Dog Awards this fall on Hallmark Channel. I’ll be presenting again… and can’t wait to help share these heroic dogs’ stories. You can vote here: www.herodogawards.org/vote
Our goal is that every animal in a shelter is adopted into a forever home, and that all of our military Veterans receive every ounce of respect, support and thanks we can give them. If you believe that too, please consider supporting #AmericanHumane. Thanks! xo
