Happy Mother’s Day! I say this not only to mothers who have given birth to children. I say this to moms who give their love to fur kids too. I say this to dads who may be both mother and father, and parents who have enough love in their hearts to adopt a child. I say this to grandparents who may be trying to fill in and pick up the slack. And I say this to friends and neighbors who may be lending a helping hand. Nowadays it really does take a village. I really think that we should get rid of labels and honor love and families in all shapes and sizes… without leaving anybody out.
I am so blessed to be a mother myself, and now a grandmother too. Watching my daughter Jess with her children fills my heart with such joy and pride. She will always be my proudest accomplishment. I am far away from them on this Mother’s Day, but I was lucky to spend a couple hours face timing with them this morning. I watched them dig in the dirt and then draw a picture to give to their mom for Mother’s Day. That phone call made a huge difference for me and them.
I urge you to reach out and call someone today too who may be feeling alone and needing a Mother’s Day hug. Our children and our families grow up way too fast, and the older I get the more I realize that family, however you create it, is everything.
