“Dearest Daughter, when you were born so many years ago I was awestruck and unqualified. As I first held you, you weren’t squalling like the other babies. You looked me straight in the eye with a profound sense of truth – the same way you do today – and all I could think was, “Please let me be worthy.” I vowed to do everything in my power to honor the gift I’d been given.
Through all the years raising you, mostly as a single mother, we shared ups, downs, adventures and misadventures as we lived out the foibles of an acting career. You taught me what unconditional love really means, and that the most important thing in life is family. You are the best thing that ever happened to me, and nothing has ever made me prouder than to be called “Jessica’s Mom.”
Today you are a Mother yourself, and watching you so wisely and lovingly raise your own child takes it to a whole new level. Being your mother will always be the pinnacle of my life. But being called “Mimi” by your son absolutely takes my breath away. Thank you, honey, for making me a grandmother.
On this and all your future Mother’s Days, my wish for you is to receive back all the love you have given me, and that someday you’ll share it with your own grandchildren.
Love,
Mom xo
